ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE:POLICE DISMISSES CORPORAL FOR KILLING 2 WOMEN AT A FUNERAL


A Police Corporal, Ali Christopher, who accidentally fired and killed 2 nursing mothers on 27 June, 2015, at a funeral in Fugar town, in Edo State, has been dismissed from the Force.

A Orderly Room Trial set up by the State Command of Nigerian Police Force which found him guilty, recommended his dismissal and trial for murder.
Corporal Ali Christopher with Force No. 444040 was until his dismissal, attached to the Auchi Area Commander’s office.
Edo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwochei, confirmed the dismissal of the erring officer to journalists in Benin, adding that the case “has been thoroughly dealt with. Two police officers were arrested. At the end of investigations, one officer was found to be culpable.

“That person has been tried in Orderly room, he is a corporal, and as I speak with you he has been dismissed. Hopefully by next week he shall appear in court.”

The Edo police spokesman who advised police officers to be guided by Force Order 237 which spells out the use of arms by officers, also appealed to members of the public to always keep a reasonable distance from any officer bearing arms.

The dismissed policeman allegedly fired his gun, one of the bullets narrowly missed a 2-month-old baby who was strapped to the back of its mother before hitting the mother on her neck.
The victim was identified as Sandra Imhaku,
reportedly lost her husband last year while expecting the baby. She was said to have been rushed to Irrua Specialist Hospital, Irrua, where she died the following day.
The second victim simply identified as Mrs. Saliu, an indigene of Fugar, came from Warri, Delta State with her husband to attend the funeral of her in-law, one late Mr. Itu Joseph when the incident occurred.
